Chickens in their best condition - Fried

Chicken is one of the most common meat we encounter in our everyday cuisine, and personally, the best condition a chicken can be in, is fried. I was very excited to be invited by The Red Chickz to try their menu and specifically, their new quarter chicken.

As we walked in to the restaurant, we were instantly noticed and engaged by an employee. She was super friendly and was very patient with us as she walked us through their menu. The chicken is fried Nashville style and there are 6 levels of heat levels you can choose from: cool, glow, spark, bonefire, blaze and inferno.

As someone who enjoys a little heat but cannot take extreme heat, so I decided to try both the spark and bonefire after hearing the description. We ordered the new addition to Red Chickz menu, the ¼ Chickz which is a combination of leg and thigh and a double Chickz Sandwitch, we also ordered the Chickz and Waffle which is only available on weekends.

All the chickens here are made to order and its worth the wait. While waiting, the manager, Nima came to great us and we talked about the ingredient and preparation process of the chicken. The chickens here are delivered fresh each morning then marinated in buttermilk, when ordered, they are then coated with batter before frying, dipped in chilly oil  after frying and finished with the dry rub. He also introduced us to their Taco Tuesday and their friend shrimp. After hearing about it, he asked if I wanted to try the shrimp as well and the answer is definitely yes.

When the food arrived, the first thing that hit me was the smell the color and the huge portion. The chicken came red and golden crisp, waffles were freshly made and the aroma it gave was mouthwatering.

Now let it rip
As I ripped through the ¼ chicken, I could hear the crunch from the skin and see juices ooze out. The dry rub was flavorful, skin perfectly crispy and meat was tender. After a couple bites of the chicken, take a slice of pickle to chase away the heat and oil.

Just look at the size of this sandwich
Then comes the double Chickz Sandwich, with two large pieces of freshly fried and seasoned chicken tenders sitting on refreshing coleslaw, comeback sauce and pickle. I encountered a problem with the Chickz Sandwich…. It was just too big to fit in my mouth. It was a difficult process trying to contain the beast of a sandwich this is.

Brunch?        Yes!
The Chickz and Waffle I ordered came with waffle and wings (or tenders), the waffle was fluffy and sweet which paired perfectly with the spicy and savory wings.

To be honest, I was skeptical about fried shrimp in a fried chicken restaurant and only asked for a small sample to try. But one bite was enough for me to say that I regret not ordering more. The outside coating was crunchy, the shrimp was springy and tasted so great when dipped into the comeback sauce. I loved the pair of the two tenures and the fresh taste of the shrimp.

If you love fried chicken or just happen to be in the area, definitely swing by and try Red Chickz out. This is your friendly neighborhood fried chicken restaurant.
